Kenneth Fowler, born and raised in Hull

Kenneth has been a keen artist since childhood, always coming top of his class at school when it came to art. Having a talent for art was not a way of making a living, especially from a working class family in those times, like so many in those days he left school at fifteen and got "a proper job". Kenneth started off working in the fish trade as a barrow boy, which was a dominant industry in Hull at the time, then went into construction.

The love for art never left him and he continued creating part time, finding inspiration from the sea, and the characters he met over the years. Kenneth has won several awards for his artwork over the years and received many recommendations, including becoming a finalist in an open art exhibition run by the News of the World which saw over 10,000 entries. They were that impressed with his work they asked to use his artwork for their annual Christmas Card. He has regularly exhibited at Ferens Art Gallery, open art exhibition. Another highlight came when Ferens Art Gallery bought one of his works for their permanent collection, his artwork is currently on display and can be seen hung alongside artist such as, Frans Hall’s, Constable and Stanley Spencer.

Influences

Kenneth is not defined by one style, you can find him painting  anything from seascapes in a traditional manner, with attention to capturing the movement of water, to horse scenes, then going onto some humorous scenes of people in pubs, or parties.

One thing is certain, whether it is the renaissance artist such as Velasquez, the great horse painter, Alfred Munnings, through to Salvador Dali, Stanley Spencer, and Montague Dawson all of whom he admired, Kenneth will not copy, but take inspiration from these, and produce his own unique view. His imagination has never faded over the years and is just as excited now with the first brush stroke on a blank canvas as he was when he bought his first box of oil paints in 1970.
